Following the success of the first book , *Hugo & Victor: My Authentic Pastry Shop* by Chef Hugues Pouget, Éditions de La Martinière reached out to vrai studio once again vrai studio photograph the Mazet confectionery. This new collaboration gave rise to a second book: *Fifty Recipes with the Delightful Flavor of Childhood*, featuring text by Philippe Toinard, editor-in-chief of Gault & Millau’s print division.
Mazet Confiseur is a historic confectionery and chocolate shop based in Montargis, with a history dating back to the 19th century. Éditions de La Martinière has published a book about the company and entrusted the photography direction to vrai studio.
The project involves several days of on-site photography. Camille Gabarra is responsible for art direction, styling, and photography: lifestyle shoots, product pack shots, manufacturing details, and workshop lighting. Each image is crafted to capture the texture and atmosphere of the artisanal confectionery without resorting to generic illustration. This type of project requires an understanding of the product, the brand, and the book all at once. Photography does not merely document; it interprets. It must serve all three simultaneously: the confectionery, the publisher, and the reader who will discover the book in a bookstore.
